Welcome to the Green Biome Institute

Conserving Biodiversity, Improving Human Health, and Growing Tomorrow's Leaders through genetic research and conservation of California's endangered plants.

Our mission is to help preserve California's endangered native plants through conservation, genomic profiling, and research into rare plant's beneficial traits in medicine and agriculture. The Green Biome Institute (GBI) is working to DNA sequence and genomically profile 250 of California's most endangered plants by 2026. We offer all of our services for free to our conservation and Botanical Garden partners and all data and analysis is made freely available to the public through popular databases and published white papers. Please visit our for data and analysis of all 200+ plants!
