When the fire alarms sounds or you are instructed by emergency personnel / school authorities/ Building Emergency Safety Team (BEST) members, evacuate the building immediately.
Collect your personal items only if they do not delay your departure.
Close doors behind you to slow the spread of fire, smoke or poisonous gases.
Exit using the nearest stairwell and do NOT use the elevator. Stay to the right in the stairwell as emergency personnel may be coming up on your left.
Do NOT move unconscious or severely injured people unless their life is in immediate danger (smoke and flame is present). Notify emergency personnel of their location once outside.
Assist those with minor injuries or disabilities (visual or hearing impairment, guide dogs, mobility issues or cognitive impairments) to exit the building. Only provide the assistance they request as they know their own capabilities. Trained individuals only may use the evacuation chairs, if there is imminent danger.
If someone is unable to evacuate, escort them to the nearest evacuation stairwell and ensure the door to the rest of the building is closed. Advise emergency responders of their location.
Outside the building, report to the assembly area. Do not leave the assembly area until you have checked in with a BEST member or emergency personnel. Do NOT re-enter the building until advised that it is safe to do so by emergency personnel / school authorities / BEST members.
Shelter in Place
Shelter in Place includes specific actions that should be taken to mitigate dangers created by environmental hazards such as hazardous materials release, severe weather, or when a portion of or the entire campus is threatened by violent intruder(s).

If outside, go inside the nearest building.

If instructed to do so, move to an interior room with no windows or small windows.

Close and secure all doors and windows to prevent inadvertent opening (gust of wind, etc.). If locking is not an option, use furniture or other objects to barricade the door.

Remain calm, locate flashlights, and other emergency supplies.

Stay where you are unless conditions become unsafe. Remain alert and follow instructions provided by AlertMe and CSUEB SAFE App emergency messages and emergency responders.

If the Shelter-In-Place is due to violent intruder(s) and you have just arrived at campus, stay in your vehicle and consider leaving campus or driving to a safer location.
