Summer Individual Evaluation and Treatment

We are pleased to offer summer therapy services for individuals with communication impairments. Our communication support services include speech and language evaluations and treatment, and the development of individualized home programs. All can apply for services; no referral is required. Please note as a training program, clients are scheduled for evaluations according to graduate clinicians' training needs and in the order they are received. Summer clinic is shortened and very limited and as with evaluations, therapy clients are scheduled according to clinicians’ training needs.

PIONEER PALS - An inclusive summer camp for young children

Founded by Dr. Shubha Kashinath, Pioneer Pals is a vibrant, inclusive program designed for neurodiverse children ages 3–10 who want to build their social communication skills in a playful and supportive environment. Through a variety of developmentally appropriate, engaging, and fun activities, campers will make new friends, explore new experiences, and grow their confidence—all while being guided by a caring team of speech-language pathologists, educational specialists, and other dedicated professionals.
Set in a dynamic indoor-outdoor setting, Pioneer Pals encourages creativity, connection, and community. We also welcome one sibling per camper with a disability to join in the fun, helping us foster a warm, inclusive space where all children can thrive together.

Please note that a submitted application does not guarantee a spot.

Camp Dream. Speak. Live

The Rees Clinic is excited to share that we have added Camp Dream. Speak. Live. to our summer service offerings for children and teens who stutter! Camp Dream. Speak. Live. is a one-week, evidence-based program for children who stutter and is based on the Blank Center CARE Model™ (Communication, Advocacy, Resiliency, Education [CARE]) targeting the following goals: (1) increase their positive perception of their ability to establish peer-to-peer relationships, (2) improve their communication competence and how they feel about their ability to communicate, (3) enhance their self- compassion, resiliency, self-advocacy, and leadership skills, and (4) lessen the influence of stuttering on their overall quality of life.
Below you can find a couple of video highlights of the Camp Dream. Speak. Live. from locations across the globe:

Our focus in Pioneer Pals is social communication skills which includes forming and building connections and friendships with peers.

  • Unfortunately, all children must be able to independently use the toilet. Volunteers and clinicians cannot assist the children in the bathroom.

  • Parents or caregivers of campers will need to complete a release of liability form. Per university policy, this form must be filled out and wet signed; electronic signatures will not be accepted. Additionally, there is a photo release form. Parents or caregivers may choose to not consent to photos of their child(ren) being used by the university. This form must also be wet signed whether consent is provided or not.

Please note that a new policy has been implemented by the university in which we will require a physical photo of your child in the event of an emergency. This photo will be kept within the department and only accessible by the department administrator and camp director if it is needed. No one else will have access to this photo.

  • Pioneer Pals campers will be with our graduate clinicians, student volunteers, and overseen by the camp director and a camp supervisor. Both the camp director and supervisor are licensed Speech-Language Pathologists. Students that volunteer in the program are students within our department or are from other departments and have taken some childhood development courses. All volunteers must complete a background check, fingerprinting, as well as additional training. All volunteers, graduate clinicians, supervisors, and the department administrator are mandatory reporters.
